For those of you new to Coastal Carolina living, we are prone to hurricanes. The BEST time to prepare is before the season starts.
Even the smallest storm can cause anxiety & outages. Here are some tips that will help you if and when an event occurs:
* Secure all outdoor furniture & plants.
* Be sure to have enough non-perishable food & enough drinking water for at least 3 days.
* Put some water in your bathtub. Sometimes the water company will turn off the water
during a major storm and the water you save will be helpful in small tasks at home.
* Check batteries in flashlights. Candles are good to have around, too.
* Make sure all cell phones are charged & if possible, have a portable charging backup.
* A battery operated radio is a good thing to have should cell service go out so you can still
keep abreast of local weather conditions.
* Make sure your pets are safe, as well. However, it's okay to leave your husband outside. LOL
In the event of storm, the front gates will be left open. This is in case there is a power failure, we can still leave our community if need be.
Do NOT decide to get out and drive around "sightseeing" during the storm. It is extremely dangerous!
Should a mandatory evacuation occur, be sure to know your evacuation route(s). Take a few minutes to click the Brunswick County Emergency Services on the previous page to familiarize yourself with even more hurricane preparedness tips, as well as evacuation routes & other important information.
